UPDATE: Thanks to those folks who have submitted applications. As dogs become available we will contact applicants. Most of the adult dogs will have special needs for training and household type, we will review details when we contact applicants. Puppies will not be available until later in August or September.

The dogs are improving in health and behavior, each at a different pace, and we expect it to take several months to place all of them. Thanks to all who have demonstrated concern for these dogs, and especially for those who have donated supplies and funds towards their care. We could not do this work without your support!

Concord, NH – The Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County (SPCA) along with the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, assisted the Bradford Police Department and the NH State Veterinarian’s Office with an on-going animal cruelty investigation on Tuesday June 11th which resulted in the removal of 52 adults and 53 puppies, primarily golden retriever and lab mixes. The dogs were transported to the SPCA late Tuesday and on Wednesday June 12th they all received comprehensive physical exams. The shelter was closed to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday in order to manage the large influx of dogs. The dogs were removed due to squalid living conditions and many have untreated medical conditions. The Bradford Police Department will continue its investigation to determine if charges of animal cruelty are warranted.
