Humane Education
In 2023 we opened the Banks Humane Education Center to serve as the home to many of our most popular programs for children, pet owners, community members and volunteers. Programs often held at the BHEC include:
-
Compassion Camp for Kids
-
Yoga With Pets
-
Pet Owner Seminars
-
Volunteer trainings and orientations
Please check our Events page for upcoming offerings.
Within the BHEC, the D’Amato Great Room provides approximately 1140 square feet of programming and event space, and there is also a kitchen, dual occupancy restrooms and an outdoor patio area. The parking lot offers spaces for 24 and overflow parking is available at the shelter across the street or in the adjacent field (seasonally). We expect to be able to offer the BHEC as rented event and function space beginning in fall of 2023.

We offer interactive educational presentations for groups interested in learning about our organization and animal care. This program can be offered off-site at your facility or at our shelter complete with a tour and the opportunity to meet animals on site. The presentation can be tailored according to the needs and goals of your group. Presentations are free of charge, however, donations for the homeless pets in our care are always greatly appreciated.
Topics presented (but not limited to) include:
-
Pet Care / Responsible Pet Ownership
-
Animal Communication & Safety
-
Careers with Animals
-
What you can do about Animal Cruelty
-
Pope Memorial SPCA-Our role in the community
