Paws to Read
A program for children in grades 1-8, to read aloud to adoptable animals at our shelter. In the past this program has only been offered through schools, but we are now offering it to individuals. Children are able to build on literacy skills with a non-judgmental audience, as well as provide valuable socialization to our shelter animals.
Program Details:
-
Sessions are Wednesdays, 4:00-5:30p (see dates available when registering)
-
Participants will spend 25 minutes reading to one animal, per session
-
$10 to reserve a session (non-refundable); space is limited and fees help to provide for the care of the animals
-
Participants must attend with a parent/guardian and follow all safety protocols. We do ask there be one child with one adult, not multiple children, as space is limited.
-
We ask participants to bring their own book(s)
-
This program is planned to accommodate the safety of participants, volunteers and staff. A SPCA volunteer will be nearby to monitor the animal and assist if needed.
